Sheila has managed patent portfolios for a variety of different clients, including local inventors, start-up and established companies, universities and research institutes, and large multinational companies.
Further, Sheila has worked on patent families in different areas of chemical technology including small molecule and peptide drug design and development, organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, biological chemistry, general chemistry, polymers and biomaterials, food and beverage technologies, and oral and personal care compositions. Sheila enjoys working closely with clients to develop and carry out IP strategies that suit their commercial needs.
Sheila has experience in drafting patent applications, prosecuting patent applications in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Europe and throughout Asia, and working on patent opposition proceedings in Australia and New Zealand. She also has experience in providing freedom to operate and infringement advice and analysing patent search results in a variety of chemical technology areas.
Prior to working as a patent attorney, Sheila gained over five years of experience in chemistry research at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland, working as part of a team of chemists, molecular modellers, biologists and pharmacologists. Sheila’s main focus was medicinal chemistry and her primary research involved molecular design, synthesis and biological evaluation of small molecule and peptide drugs.
